Learn why Ron Chabot’s decades of business leadership, Army service, Cocoa roots and community involvement distinguish his background in the 2026 Cocoa City Council District 4 race.

When Cocoa voters research the 2026 City Council District 4 election, experience matters.

City Council members help make decisions involving growth, infrastructure, parks, public services, economic development, city spending, and the overall direction of Cocoa.

Ron Chabot enters the District 4 race with a combination that is difficult to summarize in a single job title: lifelong Brevard County roots, U.S. Army service, more than four decades of private-sector experience, approximately 20 years in senior management, and decades of involvement with community and charitable organizations throughout Brevard County.

For voters researching who Ron Chabot is and what experience he would bring to Cocoa City Council, here is a closer look.

A Lifetime Connected to Cocoa and Brevard County

Ron Chabot is not new to the community he is seeking to represent.

He is a lifelong Brevard County resident and graduate of Cocoa High School, where he graduated in 1974. After high school, Ron served four years in the United States Army as a Military Policeman before returning home to Brevard County.

That history gives Ron a perspective shaped by decades of watching Cocoa and the surrounding region grow and change.

His campaign describes his candidacy simply:

          From Cocoa. For Cocoa.

          43 Years of Business Experience

One of the clearest distinctions in Ron Chabot’s background is the length of his private-sector leadership experience.

Ron spent 43 years with Carroll Distributing Company, including approximately 20 years as a senior manager.

          His responsibilities included:

           Sales

           Community relations

           Media relations

           Special events

           Charitable partnerships

           Relationship building

           Team leadership

Municipal government is different from private business, but many of the underlying leadership skills overlap.

City Council members routinely have to evaluate competing priorities, communicate with residents and businesses, work with other elected officials, review spending decisions, and help move complicated projects forward.

Ron’s campaign points to decades of managing people, building relationships, solving problems, and working with organizations throughout Brevard County as preparation for those responsibilities.

          Military Service and Leadership

Before beginning his long business career, Ron served four years in the United States Army as a Military Policeman.

During that service, he was recognized on the U.S. Army Military Police School Commandant List.

Ron’s campaign connects that experience with values such as:

           Discipline

           Accountability

           Service

           Leadership

           Teamwork

Those same themes appear throughout his campaign for Cocoa City Council.

          Decades of Community Involvement

Ron’s involvement in Brevard County extends well beyond his professional career.

His campaign lists leadership, board, volunteer, and community roles involving organizations including:

This background matters because a City Council member represents more than one neighborhood, organization, or interest.

Cocoa includes families, retirees, young people, small businesses, established neighborhoods, growing commercial areas, recreational facilities, and residents with very different priorities.

Ron’s campaign presents his decades of community involvement as evidence that he already has experience working across those different groups.

          Recognized for Community Service

Ron has also received several recognitions for his professional and community involvement.

          His campaign lists:

Taken together, these recognitions reinforce a consistent theme in Ron’s background: service and leadership did not begin when he decided to run for City Council.

Why Ron Chabot Is Running for Cocoa City Council

Ron says he is running because he wants to give back to the community that has been part of his life for decades.

His campaign focuses on six major priorities:

           Responsible Growth

           Parks and Recreation

           Water, Environment and Lagoon Protection

           Economic Development

           Listening to Residents

           Teamwork on City Council

Rather than centering the campaign around one issue, Ron’s platform touches several areas that directly affect everyday life in Cocoa.

Responsible Growth Without Losing What Makes Cocoa Home

Cocoa continues to grow, creating both opportunities and challenges.

Ron supports development that strengthens the city while also considering:

           Existing neighborhoods

           Infrastructure

           Quality of life

           Local businesses

           Long-term community needs

His campaign argues that development decisions should be transparent and informed by the people who actually live in affected neighborhoods.

The goal is not simply growth for the sake of growth.

The question is whether that growth ultimately makes Cocoa a stronger place to live and do business.

          Stronger Parks and Recreation

Parks and recreation are a particularly visible part of Ron’s platform.

          His campaign identifies improvements to:

           Neighborhood parks

           Cocoa Little League

           Youth opportunities

           Walking areas

           Recreational facilities

           Family-oriented community spaces

Ron views these spaces as more than amenities.

They contribute to neighborhood quality of life, opportunities for young people, community pride, and the experience families have living in Cocoa.

          Supporting Cocoa’s Local Economy

Ron’s business background also shapes his position on economic development.

His campaign supports an environment where:

Existing Cocoa businesses can remain competitive

           New responsible investment is welcomed

Economic growth creates opportunities for residents

District 4 benefits from the city’s growth

Ron argues that economic development should benefit the people already living and working in Cocoa rather than simply occurring around them.

Protecting Cocoa’s Water and the Indian River Lagoon

Ron has also identified environmental stewardship and the Indian River Lagoon as priorities.

His campaign supports efforts related to:

           Water quality

           Runoff reduction

           Environmental responsibility

           Lagoon restoration

           Long-term stewardship of local waterways

The lagoon is not only an environmental resource. It is closely connected to Brevard County’s economy, recreation, identity, property values, and quality of life.

A Council Member Residents Can Reach

Another recurring theme in Ron’s campaign is accessibility.

Ron believes an elected representative should:

           Attend neighborhood meetings

           Return calls

           Listen to residents

           Remain visible in the community

           Be accountable for decisions

His campaign argues that residents should not have to wonder whether their concerns are reaching City Hall.

That approach reflects Ron’s broader message that leadership begins with showing up and listening.

          Teamwork Instead of Gridlock

Ron has made cooperation among City Council members one of the defining themes of his campaign.

His stated goal is to help create a Council that can disagree when necessary while still working together to solve problems.

His campaign describes his decades of management and community leadership as preparation for exactly that type of role.

Ron summarizes his philosophy this way:

“Real leadership means serving people, working together, and always putting the community ahead of politics.”

What Makes Ron Chabot’s Background Different?

The District 4 race includes two qualified candidates: Ron Chabot and Josué Otero. The Brevard County Supervisor of Elections confirms both have qualified for the November election.

          Both candidates bring public-service experience.

          Ron’s background is different.

His candidacy is built primarily around the breadth and duration of his experience:

           Lifelong Brevard roots

           Cocoa High School graduate

           U.S. Army veteran

           43 years of professional experience

Approximately 20 years in senior management

Decades of civic and charitable involvement

Leadership roles across multiple community organizations

           Recognition for community service

           Long-standing relationships throughout Brevard County

That combination is the central distinction Ron’s campaign brings to the race.

          Leadership Before Politics

One of the clearest themes running through Ron Chabot’s biography is that his involvement in Cocoa and Brevard County began long before he became a candidate.

His career, military service, community organizations, charitable work, youth programs, civic involvement, and neighborhood leadership span decades.

That gives voters something concrete to evaluate.

Rather than asking only what a candidate says he will do in office, residents can also examine what that candidate has already done throughout his life and career.

For Ron, that record centers on:

           Service.

His candidacy centers on a straightforward argument:

The City of Cocoa City Council District 4 election will be decided during the 2026 General Election on November 3, 2026.

For Cocoa residents, municipal elections determine who will help make decisions involving development, city spending, parks, infrastructure, economic development, water resources, and other issues that directly affect everyday life.

Ron Chabot is one of two qualified candidates for Cocoa City Council District 4 in the 2026 election. The Brevard County Supervisor of Elections lists Ron Chabot and Josue Otero as the qualified candidates for the seat.

This guide explains what the Cocoa City Council does, how District 4 representation works, the issues Ron has identified as priorities, and important dates residents should know before Election Day.

What Does the Cocoa City Council Do?

Cocoa operates under a Council-Manager form of government.

Under this structure, the City Council establishes policies and programs for the city and appropriates funding for city departments, while the City Manager is responsible for the day-to-day administration of city government.

Cocoa's City Council consists of five members. The mayor is elected citywide, while four council members are elected from individual districts.

That means a District 4 council member can be involved in decisions affecting issues such as development, budgeting, public spaces, local businesses, infrastructure, environmental programs, and long-term planning.

Regular Cocoa City Council meetings are held at 6:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at Council Chambers, 65 Stone Street in Cocoa.

          Who Is Ron Chabot?

Ron Chabot is a lifelong Brevard County resident, Cocoa High School graduate, U.S. Army veteran, longtime business leader, and community volunteer.

After graduating from Cocoa High in 1974, Chabot served four years in the United States Army as a Military Policeman before returning to Brevard County.

He later spent 43 years with Carroll Distributing Company, including approximately 20 years in senior management. His professional responsibilities included sales, community relations, media relations, events, and charitable partnerships.

Chabot has also been involved with a number of Brevard County civic and charitable organizations, including the Joe Realino Memorial Fund, Brevard County Sheriff's Camp Chance, Brevard County Sheriff's PAL, the Space Coast Office of Tourism Marketing Committee, Carleton Terrace Park Association, and American Legion Post 22.

The Brevard County Supervisor of Elections reports that Chabot announced his candidacy for Cocoa City Council District 4 on January 30, 2026 and officially qualified for the race on August 6, 2026.

What Issues Has Ron Chabot Identified as Priorities?

Chabot's campaign has identified six primary areas of focus for Cocoa: responsible growth, parks and recreation, water and environmental protection, economic development, resident accessibility, and teamwork on City Council.

          Responsible Growth in Cocoa

Development and population growth can create both opportunities and challenges for cities.

Chabot's stated position is that future development should benefit residents and businesses while considering neighborhood character, infrastructure, quality of life, and the long-term needs of Cocoa.

His campaign states that he supports development decisions that are transparent and provide residents with opportunities to be involved in the planning process.

          Parks, Recreation and Youth Programs

Parks and recreation are another area Chabot has highlighted.

His campaign identifies improvements to parks, recreational opportunities, Cocoa Little League, youth programs, and family-oriented community spaces as priorities.

Municipal parks can influence quality of life in several ways, providing areas for sports, exercise, community events, youth activities, and neighborhood recreation.

Chabot has said that he wants District 4 families to have public spaces they can use and take pride in.

Water Resources and the Indian River Lagoon

Water quality and environmental issues remain important topics throughout Brevard County.

Chabot's campaign identifies water resources, runoff reduction, environmental stewardship, and Indian River Lagoon restoration among the issues he wants the city to continue addressing.

Because Cocoa is part of the broader Indian River Lagoon region, decisions involving stormwater, runoff, development, and infrastructure can contribute to larger regional environmental efforts.

          Economic Development and Local Businesses

Economic development is another responsibility that frequently intersects with municipal government.

Chabot's stated position is that Cocoa should encourage responsible investment while maintaining an environment where existing local businesses can compete and grow.

His campaign says he wants economic development to create opportunities for residents while ensuring District 4 participates in Cocoa's economic future.

          Listening to District 4 Residents

City Council members are also direct representatives of the residents within their districts.

Chabot's campaign has emphasized accessibility as one of his priorities, including attending neighborhood meetings, communicating with residents, and providing opportunities for constituents to raise concerns about city issues.

Residents can also participate directly in Cocoa government by attending City Council meetings and following matters being considered by the council.

          Teamwork on Cocoa City Council

Another theme of Chabot's campaign is cooperation among elected officials.

His campaign states that he wants City Council members to be able to work through disagreements and focus on practical solutions for Cocoa.

Chabot has pointed to his military service, management career, and work with community organizations as experiences that shaped his approach to leadership and teamwork.

When Is the Cocoa City Council District 4 Election?

City Council members help establish city policies, approve funding, provide public services and guide Cocoa’s future growth and development. District 4 needs a representative who understands the community, knows how to work with others and has spent a lifetime serving Brevard County.

Ron offers a strong combination of local roots, military service, professional leadership, civic involvement and a genuine commitment to Cocoa.

          1. Ron is from Cocoa and understands the community

Ron Chabot is a lifelong Brevard County resident and a graduate of Cocoa High School. His connection to Cocoa is not based on political ambition—it comes from a lifetime spent living, working, serving and building relationships in the community.

Ron understands that Cocoa is made up of distinct neighborhoods, families, businesses and community organizations. Each deserves to be heard and represented when City Council makes decisions involving growth, infrastructure, recreation and city services.

His campaign is founded on a straightforward commitment:

          From Cocoa for Cocoa.

Ron is running to give back to the city that helped shape his life and to help ensure Cocoa remains a strong place to live, raise a family, operate a business and build a future.

          2. He brings military service and leadership

Ron served for four years in the United States Army as a Military Police officer before returning home to Brevard County. His military experience reinforced the importance of accountability, discipline, teamwork and service—qualities that remain central to his approach to leadership.

Serving on City Council requires more than having an opinion. It requires listening, preparation, sound judgment and an ability to work constructively with residents, city staff and other council members.

Ron understands that effective leadership begins with putting the community ahead of personal agendas.

          3. He has decades of real-world management experience

After returning home, Ron built a 43-year career with Carroll Distributing Company, including approximately 20 years as a senior manager. That experience required him to lead people, solve problems, manage responsibilities and work with individuals from different backgrounds toward common goals.

Those skills are directly relevant to City Council.

Cocoa needs representatives who understand that decisions have practical consequences. Budgets must be reviewed carefully. Projects must be properly managed. Residents deserve clear communication. Problems should be addressed with solutions—not unnecessary conflict.

Ron’s career demonstrates that he knows how to lead a team, accept responsibility and follow through.

          4. Ron is already involved in Cocoa’s planning and future

Ron currently serves on the City of Cocoa Planning and Zoning Board, which acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council on zoning and land-use matters. That experience has given him direct exposure to the development questions and planning decisions affecting Cocoa.

This matters because responsible growth is one of the most important issues facing the city.

Growth can create jobs, improve neighborhoods, attract investment and expand the city’s tax base. But growth must also respect existing residents, account for roads and infrastructure, protect neighborhood character and support Cocoa’s long-term quality of life.

Ron supports development that benefits the community rather than growth simply for the sake of growth.

          5. He supports responsible economic development

Cocoa should be a city where local entrepreneurs, established employers and small businesses can succeed.

Ron supports economic development that creates local jobs, strengthens Cocoa businesses and builds a more resilient city economy. His campaign emphasizes practical growth that serves residents while protecting the qualities that make Cocoa a unique community.

          That means encouraging opportunities that:

          Create sustainable jobs

          Support locally owned businesses

          Improve underused properties

          Expand Cocoa’s economic base

          Respect surrounding neighborhoods

          Produce lasting benefits for residents

Ron understands that successful economic development requires cooperation among city government, residents, employers and community organizations.

          6. He will advocate for stronger parks and youth opportunities

Cocoa’s parks and recreation spaces are essential community assets.

They give children safe places to play, bring families together, support youth athletics and improve the quality of life throughout the city. Ron wants to improve Cocoa’s parks, recreation facilities and youth programs while strengthening support for organizations such as Cocoa Little League and Cocoa High School mentorship programs.

Investing in young people is an investment in Cocoa’s future.

Ron believes the city should work with parents, coaches, schools, nonprofit organizations and community leaders to expand positive opportunities for Cocoa’s youth.

          7. He will protect Cocoa’s water and natural resources

Water is one of Cocoa’s most important responsibilities and resources.

Ron supports protecting Cocoa’s water system, strengthening environmental stewardship and contributing to meaningful Indian River Lagoon restoration efforts. His approach recognizes that responsible environmental policy and responsible economic development must work together.

Residents deserve reliable infrastructure, clean water, responsible planning and leadership that considers the long-term consequences of city decisions.

Ron will support practical solutions that protect natural resources while serving Cocoa’s residents and businesses.

          8. Ron has a long record of community service

Ron’s involvement in Brevard County did not begin when he decided to run for office.

He has served as a board member and president for civic and charitable organizations, including the Joe Realino Memorial Fund, Brevard County Sheriff’s Camp Chance, Brevard County Sheriff’s Police Athletic League and the Carleton Terrace Park Association.

His service reflects a consistent willingness to contribute his time, experience and leadership to programs that help families, young people and the broader community.

          That history matters.

Ron has already demonstrated that he is willing to show up and do the work required to make Cocoa and Brevard County stronger.

          9. He believes City Council should work as a team

Residents are best served when City Council members communicate, respect differing viewpoints and work together to solve problems.

Ron’s professional career, military background and community-service experience have all required teamwork. He is running to improve cooperation on the Council and help move Cocoa forward through productive, resident-focused leadership.

Disagreement will always be part of government. But disagreement does not have to become dysfunction.

Ron will listen carefully, evaluate the facts and work respectfully with others to find solutions that benefit Cocoa.

          10. He will listen to District 4 residents

          Representation begins with listening.

Ron believes District 4 residents should feel heard, respected and included in decisions that affect their neighborhoods. He wants residents to know who their councilmember is, how to reach him and that their concerns will receive serious consideration.

Ron’s commitment is to remain visible, accessible and connected to the people he serves.

That means attending community events, meeting with residents, communicating about important city issues and making decisions based on what is best for Cocoa.

Ron Chabot offers the leadership Cocoa needs

          Ron’s qualifications include:

          Lifelong Brevard County residency

          Cocoa High School roots

United States Army Military Police service

Meet Ron Chabot: From Cocoa for Cocoa

Ron Chabot is running for Cocoa City Council District 4 with a simple message:

          From Cocoa for Cocoa.

A lifelong Brevard County resident and Cocoa High School graduate, Ron has spent his life serving, working, and giving back to the community he calls home. After graduating from Cocoa High in 1974, Ron served four years in the United States Army as a Military Policeman before returning home to Brevard County.

From there, Ron built a 43-year career with Carroll Distributing Company, including 20 years as a senior manager overseeing sales, community relations, media relations, special events, and partnerships with local charities. His career gave him firsthand experience in leadership, teamwork, communication, and bringing people together to accomplish shared goals.

But Ron’s service to the community did not stop at work. Over the years, he has been involved with numerous civic groups, charitable organizations, youth programs, and community events throughout Brevard County. His leadership has included service with the Joe Realino Memorial Fund, Brevard County Sheriff’s Camp Chance, Brevard County Sheriff’s PAL, Carleton Terrace Park Association, American Legion Post 22, and many others.

Ron is running to give back to the City of Cocoa and help move the community forward with responsible, resident-focused leadership. His priorities include responsible growth, economic development, stronger parks and recreation, water and lagoon protection, listening to residents, and promoting teamwork among council members.

For Ron, this campaign is about service, teamwork, and community pride.

“My passion is to unite people and work as a team for the betterment of Cocoa and its citizens,”

           Ron said.

As a candidate for Cocoa City Council District 4, Ron is focused on bringing proven leadership, community experience, and a collaborative approach to City Hall. He believes Cocoa’s future should be shaped by leaders who listen, work together, and put residents first.

Ron is proud to stand with the people of Cocoa and looks forward to earning the trust and support of District 4 voters.

          From Cocoa. For Cocoa.
